Medium-Term Priority Target

 · Reduction of the CO2 Emission Intensity
 · Striving for Zero Waste Status

Reduction of the CO2 Emission Intensity
We have set the target of the CO2 emission intensity, that is to strive to reduce the CO2 emission intensity at the user end between fiscal 2008 and 2012 by around 20% on average compared to fiscal 1990.

The development of nuclear power facilities is a trump card, a central strategy to combat global warming. When Shimane Unit No.3 goes on line, CO2 emissions intensity is expected to decrease by around 20%,relative to the level in fiscal 1990. Even greater reduction is anticipated – a drop of 50%, relative to fiscal 1990-when Kaminoseki No.1 and No.2 units go into operation.

Striving for Zero Waste Status
To achieve zero waste status, we have priotized efforts to expand effective utilization of coal ash as a material for civil engineering projects, improve application rates for construction waste and used plastics, and undertake themeticulous separation of office waste to facilitate reapplication as new resources
