Setup for Calculation of Electricity Charges
(as of September 2008)
  Reading of Meters
Notification of Amount of Electricity Used
  Calculation of Charges
Charge Calculation Method (for Meter-Rate Lighting A contracts)

Each month your meter is read to determine the amount of electricity you have used, and your electricity charges are calculated accordingly.
Note: Where customers have a Flat-Rate Residential Lighting contract, no meter is installed and therefore no meter reading takes place.

Reading of Meters
Each month on the meter inspection day, the reading of your meter is taken in order to determine the amount of electricity you have used.
Meter inspection day
This is the day in each month on which the meters are read to determine the amount of electricity used. Customers are informed of this day in advance.
Note: The inspection day for the following month is given in each month's Notification of Amount of Electricity Used.

Calculation of amount of electricity used
The amount of electricity that you have used is calculated by subtracting the previous month's meter reading from the present month's reading.

Notification of Amount of Electricity Used
Notification of Amount of Electricity Used
Notification of Amount of Electricity Used is delivered to you each month on the meter inspection day.

(1) Contract number
This is your electricity contract number with us.

(2) Contract type
This gives the type of your electricity contract.

(3) Amount used
This gives the amount of electricity that you have used in the month.

(4) Sum to be billed
This gives the sum of money that you are scheduled to be billed for the month.
* This sum includes money for consumption tax, etc.
Note: For certain reasons there are times when this item cannot be indicated.

(5) This month's and last month's reading
This gives the readings of your meter on this month's meter inspection day and the previous month's.

(6) Following month's meter inspection day
This gives the day next month when we will come to your residence to read your meter.

(7) Fuel cost adjustment charge
Where fuel cost adjustment is implemented, this gives the applicable fuel cost adjustment charges for the current month.
*Fuel cost adjustment charges includes money for consumption tax, etc.

(8) Sum received(notified to customers paying by automatic transfer)
The right-hand section of the Notification slip is a receipt for customers who pay their electricity charges by automatic transfer from a bank or postal account. This item states the previous month's electricity charge received from the customer's account and gives a breakdown of that charge.
(In some cases this item may not be shown because e.g. the date of the automatic transfer does not permit it. In such cases a receipt is mailed to the customer on a postcard.)
* The "Sum received" includes money for consumption tax, etc.

(9) Service Office
This gives the Chugoku Electric Power Service Office for the area in which you are using our electricity.

(10) Scheduled automatic transfer date
The date on which the automatic transfer is to be made.

Calculation of Charges
We calculate your charges according to the amount of electricity we determine you have used.
Period covered by the calculation
For the purpose of the calculation, the period from the previous month's meter inspection day to the day before the current month's inspection day counts as one(1) month. This is the period that the calculation covers.

For example if the previous month's inspection day was August 16 and the present month's inspection day is September 17, then the charge for "September" will be the charge covering the period from August 16 up until September 16, thus:
Electricity charge for "September"

Where fuel cost adjustment is implemented:
Where fuel cost adjustment is implemented, a fuel cost adjustment amount is either added to or subtracted from the electricity charge as appropriate.

If you change address in the middle of a monthly period, your charge will be calculated on a day basis
If you terminate or start use of our electricity on a day other than a meter inspection day due to address change or other circumstance, we will calculate a charge for the number of days that you used our electricity during the monthly period in question.

If you start use in the middle of a monthly period:
We will calculate the charge for the period from the date when you start use up until the day before the next meter inspection day, thus:

Charge for period beginning from the day you start use

If you terminate use in the middle of a monthly period:
We will come and read your meter on the day you terminate use, then we will calculate the charge for the period from the previous meter inspection day up until the day before the date of termination, thus:

Charge for period up until the day you terminate use

Charge Calculation Method (for Meter-Rate Lighting A contracts)

Model calculation for when the amount of electricity used in one(1) month is 310 kWh
Note: This example is for the case where a discount is made for automatic transfer.

Bill amount = Minimum charge + Power consumption charge +or- Fuel cost adjustment amount - Automatic transfer discount + Money for consumption tax, etc.

Example calculation of charge for use of 310 kWh in one(1) month under Meter-Rate Lighting A contract
Category Calculation method
Minimum charge
(covering initial 15 kWh)
319 yen 20 sen (1)
Electricity energy charge Consumption past 15 kWh up to 120 kWh 19 yen 66 sen × 105 kWh = 2,064 yen 30 sen
Consumption past 120 kWh up to 300 kWh 26 yen 03 sen × 180 kWh = 4,685 yen 40 sen
Consumption past 300 kWh 28 yen 06 sen × 10 kWh = 280 yen 60 sen
Total 7,030 yen 30 sen (2)
Fuel cost adjustment amount yen sen + sen × (310 kWh - 15 kWh) = yen sen (3)
Automatic transfer discount 52 yen 50 sen (4)
Prompt payment (1) + (2) + (3) - (4) = 7,297 yen (5) Rounded down to nearest yen
Prompt payment above includes:
Money for consumption tax, etc.
(5) × 5/105 = 347 yen   Rounded down to nearest yen
The bill amount in the above calculation example is for prompt payment and when fuel cost adjustment is not implemented. (Where fuel cost adjustment is implemented the fuel cost adjustment amount will be added or subtracted.)
