The Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc.
Commencement of the Project for Introduction of Hybrid Power Generation System in Cabo Verde
We, the Chugoku Electric Power Co., Inc. (Chugoku Electric) and Kyuden International Corporation are pleased to announce that the contract on the Project for Introduction of Hybrid Power Generation System in Cabo Verde (the Project) was signed between Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and us.
Republic of Cabo Verde (Cabo Verde) is an island nation off the coast of West Africa and most of its electricity is supplied by diesel power generation.
The Government of Cabo Verde has set a goal of increasing the penetration rate of renewable energy centered on wind power generation to 50% by 2025, but it was recorded as only 18.2% as of 2018.
The Project is to transfer our knowledge, which is operation and maintenance standards for diesel power generation and the optimal operation method for the hybrid power generation system combined by diesel and renewable energy, to the staff of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Energy and Empresa de Electricidade e Água over the next two years. At the same time, we will contribute to the stable power supply and expanding the penetration rate of renewable energy by considering measures to promote the introduction of renewable energy for the further development of Cabo Verde.
Chugoku Electric will propose the optimum operation method for the hybrid power generation system by using our experience, knowledge and technological capabilities including the Oki Hybrid Project (https://www.energia.co.jp/e/business/int_business/skills/hybrid.html).
In order to realize a decarbonized society and develop the region through energy supply, Chugoku Electric will actively tackle the technological development for carbon neutrality and challenge to make a sustainable society both at home and abroad.
